Description:

There is an ever growing need for skilled RFW technicians to play a critical role in understanding, managing, and protecting our vital natural resources. Whether your interests lie in the importance of ensuring the integrity of fish and wildlife habitats, or creating usable outdoor recreation spaces, this program is for you.

Gain experience in cutting-edge technology with field-based learning giving you the hands-on skills and knowledge necessary to successfully compete for jobs like Park Rangers, Fisheries and Wildlife Technicians, and Recreation Technicians. Our small class sizes and experienced instructors provide a rich learning environment complemented by the spectacular West Kootenay.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
  •  Grade11 Biology 
  •  Grade12 English 
  •  Grade11 Principles of Mathematics  or  Grade11 Foundations for College Mathematics (MAP4C) 
Applicants must have completed senior secondary school (or equivalent) with the following courses or their equivalents: Biology 11 C+, Principles of Math 11 or Foundations 11 with a C+ or better, and English 12 C+. For students with previous post-secondary experience, advanced credit may be available for related course work through the Application for Advanced Credit Process.
Test Scores:
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Computer Based) [min. 213] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.0] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 79-80]
Application Notes : If your first language is not English, you must meet the following English Language Proficiency requirements for entry in to Selkirk College University Transfer, Diploma or Degree programs: completion of BC English 12, or equivalent; or completion, with a grade of "C+" or better, advanced core courses in the Selkirk College English Language Program and Provincial Level English 51; or submission of a TOEFL score of 213 (computer) or ibt 79-80 or better; or submission of an IELTS score of 6.0 or better; or submission of an EIKEN Grade Pre -1; or submission of an acceptable score on the Language Proficiency Index score of 4 or better. For Indian students coming through the SPP program, the IELTS requirement for diploma programs is 6.0 with no band less than 5.5.
